Parish Updates: From the Ascension to the Road to Rome

Dear Friends,

Happy Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord! Today we celebrate that day when Jesus was taken up into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father and the day the disciples were sent forth to proclaim the gospel. As Jesus’ disciples today we are also called to bear witness to what we have seen and heard and glorify the Lord by our lives.

Eve Davis has decided to step down from her role as pianist for the St. Mary’s and St. Ann’s weekend Masses. I appreciate her service and wish her well. I am currently looking for an organist/pianist. If you know anyone who may be interested, please contact the parish office.

Welcome and thank you to Father Steve Shaftlein who is taking my place this weekend and next as I lead a pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi. Please pray for our safety!

Next weekend we celebrate the end of the Easter season with the Solemnity of Pentecost. Father Steve will wear red liturgical garments as a sign of the fire of the Holy Spirit. I invite you to join him by wearing red clothing as a sign of the Holy Spirit descending upon us. Our pilgrimage group will be celebrating Mass on that day at the Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi. You will be in my prayers and I will light a candle for all of the Catholics of Jennings County!

Let us pray that God will strengthen us for our future ministry together with the gifts of the Holy Spirit!

Father Chris
